WHATEVER YOU WANT

Song and Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitars, Synths, Bass, Percussion
Jonny Konya: Drums

it’s whatever
it’s whatever
and you say to me
there’s some things I’ll never see
but I only see you
and that’s my only need of truth
‘cause you see in the lines of what you love
you only love the things you understand
oh you understand the things you were taught
but all in all it’s whatever you want
if those thoughts you got in your head
are getting you down think of something else instead
‘cause each place can seem
dark or bright you control the light
then you’ll see that you’re in control of what you love
and what you love is what you wanted to understand
oh you understand the things you were taught
but all in all it’s whatever you want
spending the rest of our lives debating what it all means
but we’re always off conclusions are only what things seem to be
but don’t get upset your love is not a lie
we’re just a sign of the times
and we will find our life’s design
your minds eye will see
whatever you want
whatever you want

INTO THE WOODS

Song by Devan Mulvaney and Jonny Konya. Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitars, Synths, Moog, Drum Machine
Jonny Konya: Drums
Lucy Westphal: Backing Vocals

let’s move to the woods
and live like we wish we could
no rules
no rules
let’s start a war
against all we know
no guns
no gods
we will find peace of mind
we will find silence for all time
we will find us a new home
we will find a new world
a new world
we see the distant lights of a car
are we truly alone?

OH THOSE DAMN BUTTERFLIES

Song and Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitars, Synths, Moog, Drum Machine

I like to turn up the sound
when no one else is around
distort the thing behind my eyes
fading out the question why
and time you know
makes us grow
time man you know

makes us grow
how our minds bend
how our hearts bend
how our minds bend
how our hearts bend
don’t forget your mother
don’t forget your father
don’t forget your sister
don’t forget you brothers
we are all of us
tonight all of us
in the night
did you find?
did you find?
did you find your love?
it’s what they’re after
it’s what they’re after

A PLACE I’VE NEVER BEEN

Song and Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitars, Synths, Piano, Bass
Jonny Konya: Drums, Percussion

you’ve been stayin’ up late annoyingly
I keep to my self you’re ignoring me
sanity leaves me
sanity leaves me
why can’t you make up your mind?
you do this to me all the time
I am sailing over walls
to a place I’ve never been

while you keep me here I’ll change
into someone I know but don’t wish to keep
let’s move away from here
don’t be afraid we’ll make it I swear

GROW UP

Song and Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitars, Synths, Moog
Jonny Konya: Drums

you make me tie my wing
I didn’t say a thing
I just hope you know what you’re doing
they say say you ain’t so bad
but I found out
that you wont grow up
no you wont grow up
you look so adamant
now that I’m gone
as if you’ve had it
they say you ain’t so bad
but I found out
that you wont grow up
no you wont grow up
I thought you knew
why we run from you

WHEN WE WERE YOUNGER

Song and Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitars, Piano, Bass, Percussion
Don Mulvaney: Drums, Piano
Meghan Quinn: Accordion
Jake Falby: Violin
Kristine Kruta: Cello

do you remember the games we played when we were younger?
we’d play house you were my wife and I was your husband
it’s funny how moments like these
have transformed themselves into distant memories
I hate how these memories only remind me of what used to be
what used to be
how we made make-believe love under your sheets
will we ever know what loving one means?
I know we did so long ago
our secrets lie on grassy stones
beside our church in summer where
you kissed my lips I played in your hair
you asked for my shirt but I said no
these are the things I remember from long ago
ohh so long ago
but now that we’re older if we laid in bed
it’s not like it was before it’s just sex instead
new lovers try to find their old loves from long ago
in the new people they meet but that old love wont show
‘cause everything’s changed so drastically
and yet we still have feelings from who we used to be
oh it’s all so hard to take when the past is over and done
but what do you do with that idea of love when you were innocent and young?
how self centered of me to not leave you alone
but I’ve been so focused on your feelings I’ve forgotten my own
and when you left I stayed in my bed
I could find all the different places where you had laid your head
the scent of your hair stained on my pillows
how beautiful the sun lit up your face through the window
almost like we were kids when I used to hold you
this is what I miss most of all I don’t think I’ve told you
I don’t think I’ve told you
I don’t think I’ve told you
when we were younger

SWEETEST DESCENT

Song and Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitar, Piano

sweat escapes the body
taste of salt
touching small hairs
without fault
these parts they can’t withstand
the touch of my lips
this feeling it lingers
let it sit
hands close to bleeding
delicately soft
vision are you deceiving me?
please don’t shut off
throwing back our arms
our air sweeps us by
impossible to explain
truer then being high
let all buckle and fall
let all buckle and fall
sweetest descent
aching, breaking
heart is making
sensations unknown to me
why is my body shaking uncontrollably?
the lighting within my head
she keeps me safe

if I was to be dead
I’d take that fate
let all buckle and fall
let all buckle and fall
sweetest descent
quiet noises of joy
leak from my throat
broken down all gates
buried all moats
higher then desire
faster then speed
stronger then fire
greater than the sea
weeping, sleeping, bleeding, breathing
lying, trying, everything’s dying
breaking, shaking, everything’s aching
have what you want
prepare this heart for taking
let all buckle and fall
let all buckle and fall
sweetest descent

IT’S TIME

Song and Lyrics by Devan Mulvaney
Devan Mulvaney: Vocals, Guitars, Synths, Moog, Drum Machine
Jake Falby: Violin
Kristine Kruta: Cello

time waits for no one
and it takes time to get you
bend the clouds above me
a warm night
who’s this in front of me?
what’s inside of you?
jackals and happenstance

and I’m here with you
and I’m here with you

I need a savior to come
and rid me of this pain
I’ve held onto
to be a savior but not tonight
we’re in cocoon’s of glorious light
and I’m here with you
and I’m here with you
and all I’ve done has come undone
and all I’ve done has come undone
and I’m here with you
and I’m here with you
and it’s time to be in love and feel
and it’s time to be in love and feel
and it’s time

Endless gratitude to the following people who helped bring my dream to fruition:

Matt Sargent for introducing me to new tools that allowed my music to go in the direction I always wished it could.  Chad Bernhard for generously lending me gear and recording tips that helped immensely.  Erik Wofford for recording Jonny’s drums. Paul Gold for mastering this record effortlessly. Meghan Quinn, Kristine Kruta, and Jake Falby for sharing their talent. Will Hatch Crosby for the beautiful graphic design and layout. Shuto Okayasu for his incredible artwork. Jonny Konya for his longtime collaboration and enthusiasm for my music. Daniel Schlett, whose creativity and patience in the mixing of this record will never be forgotten.

Most of all I’d like to thank my family.  My sister Katherine, for always encouraging me to pursue my music and being flexible with her own music schedule so we could both use our father’s studio. My Mom, for being a pillar of love and support. She and my father made my upbringing one full of creativity and wonder.  My Dad, for being unbelievably generous with his space and time.  His example of how to be a musician, songwriter and recording artist is the reason I knew this could be possible. Without the freedom to experiment (often way too loudly) in his studio this album would not exist. And lastly, to my wonderful partner in crime Lucy, who was always kind and encouraging while listening to this album’s many different forms over and over again. Whenever I had self-doubt she was my cheerleader. I could not have made it through everything this album took to complete without her love and support.
